First Decks for New Homes in Hutto

A new home in Hutto often comes with a bare yard and a small back patio, and a first deck is the easiest way to make that space useful.

Why Hutto Has So Many Bare Yards

Hutto has grown fast. The Census counted 27,577 people in 2020 and estimates 46,048 in 2025. That is a lot of new homes in a few years. Many of them came with a fence, some grass and a small patio by the back door. That is a good start, but it is not much room for a table, a grill and a few friends.

Start From the Back Door

Most first decks start at the door you use the most. We look at where the sun hits in the late afternoon, where water runs when it rains and where you want to sit. Then we draw a deck that fits. It can tie into the patio you have or step down to it.

Things We Check on a New Lot

New lots have a few things that older yards do not. We check them before we draw anything.

Plan for a Cover Later

Many people want shade next summer but not the full cost this year. That is fine. We can set the posts and footings so a roof or patio cover can go on later without tearing anything out. Tell us your long term plan at the estimate and we will build for it.

HOAs and Permits

If your home is in an HOA, it sets its own rules. Ask for the architectural rules and any form before you build. The city side is separate. Read the Hutto permit guide for that part.

Questions About New Homes

Can a deck connect to the patio the builder left?

Yes. A deck can sit at the same height as the patio or step down from it. We look at the door height and how the yard drains, then pick the cleanest way to join them.

Should I wait a year after moving in?

You do not have to wait. A new yard can settle in spots, so we look for low areas and soft ground when we visit. We plan footings for what we find.
