What We Build
Most Hutto yards are flat and open. That makes a deck a simple way to add a room outside. We build low decks that sit just off the back door and raised decks for homes with a step down to the yard.
- Ground level decks that step right out from the house
- Raised decks with stairs and railings
- Decks that wrap a corner or connect two doors
- Decks built ready for a roof later

Wood or Composite
Wood costs less up front and looks warm. It needs a wash and a fresh coat of stain every few years in the Texas sun. Composite costs more at the start. It does not need stain and it will not splinter.
Some people mix them. They use composite boards on top and treated wood for the frame you cannot see. We will show you both and price both, so you can choose with real numbers.
Built for Hutto Ground
Much of east Williamson County sits on dark Blackland Prairie clay. This clay swells when it is wet and shrinks when it dries. Posts that are set too shallow can lift and tilt. We plan footings for the ground we find on your lot. Read our clay soil and footings guide to see why.
Stairs, Railings and Lights
We build stairs and railings to feel solid and easy to grip. Cable, wood and metal rails all work. Step lights and post cap lights help you see at night. The city asks for an electrical permit when you add lights.
Permits Come First
The City of Hutto lists patio covers as a common permit. Its FAQ does not spell out decks. We call the Building Department with your size and height before we build. See the Hutto deck permit guide for what we know and what to ask.
Questions About Decks
How big should my deck be?
Start with what you will do on it. A table for six and a grill need more room than two chairs. Most people want enough room to walk around the table without stepping off the edge. We measure your yard and mark the size on the ground so you can see it before you decide.
Is composite worth the extra cost?
It depends on how long you plan to stay and how much upkeep you want. Composite skips the staining. Wood costs less now. We price both on the same estimate so you can compare.
